Context

Choice of media and Topic

For my FMP I would like to challenge myself into aiming for a project which is very engaging to the audiences attention to showcase my technological ambition, skills and knowledge, while also presenting a interesting topic in a manner which serves the audiences with information, entertainment and relativity.
On the other hand I would like to present all the previous purposes, under a strong narrative that proves functional creativity, such as themes and visuals not to be too complex or abstract for the passive audience to be thrown off or not understand that there is some artistic identity, meanwhile, this will be accompanied by an simple narrative structure with a bold timeline that shows clear separation of chapters so that context is delivered clear and not overwhelming.

Chosen medium - Documentary

For my chosen media I would like to go for a moving image category medium as they are a very effective and captivating method to deliver your topic, or message intended. For example of success of moving images over still images can be seen through the popularity of video form such as short video called "reels" over still photos uploaded on social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, this is because the constant motion change keeps the passive audience hooked on the narrative, therefore I believe that I would like to go for a medium which is very complex but in the same time simple for the watcher's attention. Accompanied by this theory I will chose to create a documentary.

Documentary is a non-fiction narrative which is backed up by real evidence and information under a film format, the purpose of documentaries is to deliver content and information as accurate as possible with side-by-side evidence about the chosen topic. To determine of what makes a reliable and great documentary, there are keys of convention which must be respected to be certified documentary. Elements such as real footage, archives, expert/witnessed testimonial, verified statistics and re-enactments.

Also Documentaries comes in genres where to be more specific they are called modes. Modes are similar to key of convention, however this time is depending on the characteristics of your documentary, from narrative to topic, this will determine what type of documentary it is. For example, I will be going for a performative mode therefore in my narrative I would be applying heavily my personal relationship with the topic I will be cover.

Chosen Topic - Experience in street photography

My chosen topic would be something which I am very close to and have a strong relationship with, street photography is a world of photographic art which has become more and more popular on social media due to its connection to street culture, myself as a amateur photographer I have come across this genre and started to practise it from the beginning of my photography journey to my current state, therefore I would like to take this opportunity as an influential idea and compose a documentary which I showcase the day-to-day experience of street photography.

1. What does street photography mean ?

Street photography is a form of art which captures random instances or sights in public places, however the best way i can describe it is to myself is, the art of exploring your local surroundings in different angles.

2.What got me into street photography ?
My photographic journey was a miracle as I never though of it, however when I started it, I also started street photography as it was a very practical genre for my level as a newbie which was learning the camera through practise.

3. how was it in the practise street photography ?
Everyone sees you as a wierdo, however all of that won't matter once you see your work which gives you that good confidence and motivation to move on but be careful that you may delete many of the photos you took.

Final Message

Would you recommend photography to others ?
Yes, its a nice hobby and career which allows you to see the world differently and even better even seeing your own imagination.

Colour Grading

Colour Grading is the process of adding and styling the colour of your scene, this process takes part in-post, The intensity of this artificial colouring cloud be light or super extreme like modern movies.

I came in conclusion to use this editing effects as I like my project to be appealing to current generation of content creators, photographers and pop culture. In today generation cinematography has evolved to a much creative and technological level which raised the visual standards of todays audiences, as a result stuff like VFX, CGI, Colour grading and Motion Graphics have become common elements which the general audiences are exposed, so from my stand as content creator and a media student, I have chose to go for colour grading.

I have chose colour grading because of it's low requirements in pre-editing, therefore with low requirements I have chose to take the opportunity to apply it in my project. The requirements needed for a successful colour grading to take place is to have a 18+ MP Camera and if possible a photo simulation in which flattens out the image details so that you can have greater control over them in-post.

Monochromatic colour grading -

Monochromatic Colour Grading is the colour grading style of using a dominant colour/hue pallet to add in the shadows, mid-tones, highlights. For example I would be using this technique to a dominant colour of Green for the purpose to create an artistic identity to my expository short documentary.

Creative Ideas

Film Burn Transition

Film Burn transition are a very popular form of transition which most current content creators and filmmakers use on their videos/reels, although back in the day was seem as a error, nowadays it's seemed as creative effect which this generation of media/ photography students enjoy to see as their like some reminder of classic eras which in this case is film photography.

Camera shutter montage visual and audio

Change of motion is keen to my documentary therefore I have come up with the idea of minimalising time where there is empty screen therefore I came to the conclusion of a pop up montage of photos that are linked to the topic of this documentary with the audio of shutter synced up so I keep the audience engaged in a fun way

Cartoon transition

I am planning between shots I want to change from the film burn transition to something else so that I keep my audience engaged, therefore I am planning to use a cartoon technical error as its spontaneous which keeps the audiences attention up, I would like to use the Simpson technical error because its a cartoonish and warm transition which links to both my audience and my warm narrative.

Context information chapter

 the beginning

To understand cameras, we need to understand the first camera, which is the camera obscura where a dark room has a pin hole where the light from outside reflect the things outside in the inside room.
this concept is around this world since DaVinci's era.

The First actual camera

Although the concept before, in 18th century the first ever photographic device was created in France by Joseph Niepce, called the heliograph, was a huge pin hole camera which reflected the light onto a light reacting paper. The first photo is called "view from the window at Le Glas" and it's a black and white picture of a small French town.

Introduction of street photography

With this introduction of photography, many genres started such as documenting photography and human photography but also Street Photography established by photographer Charles Negre, who was using photography to document his street's, architecture and life.

The innovation

With time going forward, the world of photography innovated such as the introduction of the Leica Cameras which were much faster, compact and easy to manoeuvre, therefore with such technology Street photography gain a big peak in popularity and productivity as the difficulty went down and great photojournalist Andres Kertesz putting street photography and the Leica cameras in trend.

Post War

After WW2, a big change in society happen all over the globe, from urban environment to peoples behaviour, therefore photographers such as Robert Franks has taken advantage of this momentum and started his photography work where he would document the American society from day to day life.

Colour in photography

In the 70s and 80s street photography has continued with the classical Leica and black and white film however colour film has became popular therefore starting a big movement of colour photography, a great example is photographer  Joel Meyerowitz who was a big advocate of colour in street photography.

Digitalisation

Early 2000s and the digital world comes to photography, with it's new camera technology called digital single lens reflex camera, know as DSLR attracting more people in the world of photography and photo editing, where their will post their artistic work on the social media platform.

Current stage

At this time and moment, photography has become so popular which many photographers have become content creators which vlog their equipment, photos and editing, meanwhile street photography is picking up the flow and becoming a trendy for photographic content creators such as English photograph YouTuber Optical wander where he bases most of his work on street Photography.

Context Information chapter modified

  • The camera obscura theory and explanation
  • First Camera device, first photographer and first photo
  • first street photographer (Charles Negre) and what was it
  • Introduction of Leica and first proper street photographer (Andres Kertesz)
  • After WW2 street photography turn to explore society (Robert Frank)
  • The rise of colour photography trend in the 70s and how it benefited street photography
  • Digitalisation where people started using digital cameras and upload on social medias.
Reason: The original blurred scene in the background with animated text didn't seem to work as well therefore I have came up with the idea of record a talking head of me explaining each stage.

Target Audience profile

For example some of this target audience are chosen by media outlets like content creators on Instagram and YouTube which its very useful as I understand my audience much better, rather then a non-relating audience, this is very useful to my project as I can identify the wants and expectation of my audiences causing me to deliver a documentary which is more appealing to their like.
